The Broncos are not going to trade QB Tim Tebow.
A remark John Elway made to Sports Illustrated‘s Peter King spiraled into a bad version of the telephone game that forced the new Broncos football head honcho to defend his team’s stance on Twitter.
Welcome to the front office life, Elway. You sure you don’t want to go back to selling cars?
“To clarify my thoughts on Tim Tebow … I think he’s a very good football player, and if anyone can turn themselves into a great quarterback, Tim can,” Elway wrote.
“Myself and our entire organization think very highly of him. We are pleased with his first year as a Bronco.
“Any speculation that the Denver Broncos are considering moving Tim is completely false.”
Elway was complimentary of Tebow during his introductory press conference on Jan. 5.
Elway called Tebow a “darn good football player,” and said that he needed to make Tebow a good quarterback. Elway apparently reiterated his stance to King, which was misinterpreted. King said that if former coach Josh McDaniels lands on a team that needs a quarterback, “I would expect that team could pursue Tebow” (via his Twitter account).
But Elway left little doubt on Saturday where Tebow stands with the team’s new administration.
