Patriots earn home-field advantage in AFC

Officially, the AFC playoffs will now go through Foxborough, Mass.

Ravens clinch playoff spot

The Ravens are the third team to punch a ticket to the AFC playoffs.

Jets, Bears are fantasy gold … no seriously

Here is this weeks’ recipe for a fantasy shootout. Freezing weather. Conditions so dangerous that our Jason La Canfora could not film from the field. And mix in a couple of top eight defenses. That will get you about 72 points.

Niners make change: Alex Smith in for Troy Smith

With their season on the line Sunday in St. Louis, tensions are running high for the 49ers. It has all led to coach Mike Singletary pulling QB Troy Smith for Alex Smith during the fourth quarter, hoping to pull out a season-extending win over the Rams.

Mason out for Ravens

Derrick Mason has left Sunday’s game against the Browns with what looks to be a right leg injury.

Jags RB Jennings more hype than production

Jaguars RB Rashad Jennings was supposed to breakout this week. How is that working out?

Productive day for Gronkowski, Thomas and Bowe

Pulling in a couple of fantasy thoughts from the Twitterverse: Matt Cassel hits Dwayne Bowe on a 75-yard catch and run for a TD. Looks like Bowe woke up after a 3-week statistical nap. Malcom Floyd and Antonio Gates are INACTIVE. Look for a lot of Vincent Jackson. So much for the Jets-Bears game being a defensive struggle. 60-plus points already scored between the two teams. Jay Cutler to Johnny Knox for their second TD of the day. Rob Gronkowski now has 2 TDs on the day. Mike Thomas is having a nice game for the Jaguars … and fantasy owners. Packers S Collins active vs. Giants

Green Bay safety Nick Collins — listed as questionable this week with a rib injury — will be active when the Packers host the New York Giants Sunday.

Colts welcome back RB Addai vs. Raiders

The Colts will have RB Joseph Addai against the Raiders on Sunday, his first game back from a neck injury that kept him out since Week 6.

Chargers not at full strength against Bengals

The Chargers must keep winning to have a chance at making the playoffs, but their task just got a little tougher. San Diego will be without Pro Bowl TE Antonio Gates and WR Malcom Floyd at Cincinnati.

Houston out for Lions

The Lions were without starting CB Chris Houston to start the second half in Miami.

Texans’ Johnson inactive vs. Broncos

Andre Johnson has battled an ankle injury for most of the season, and the issue will force him to miss Sunday’s matchup at Denver. The Pro Bowl receiver will be inactive when the Texans face the Broncos.

Rogers sidelined for Redskins

An injury update out of Jacksonville, where Redskins CB Carlos Rogers left Sunday’s game against the Jaguars during the second quarter with a calf injury.

Championship week to extend into Tuesday night

That’s right, many of your fantasy leagues will come down to Tuesday night because Sunday night’s tilt between the Vikings and Eagles has been postponed.

Chiefs QB Cassel throwing TDs again, even to Bowe

Chiefs QB Matt Cassel is throwing touchdowns again. Just a few weeks outside of an appendectomy procedure that threatened to wreck the Chiefs playoff hopes along with some of your fantasy hopes. That is great news. Not so much if you are waiting for WR Dwayne Bowe to get back track. Cassel has already thrown two touchdown passes against the Titans, both to RB Jamaal Charles. The bigger concern for Bowe owners is if the Chiefs put this game out of reach early in this game (and the Chiefs are driving again). That would mean more attempts for Charles and RB Thomas Jones, less targets for Bowe. That point, however, has just been rendered moot because of a long touchdown […]
