Fantasy owners of Andre Johnson, I apologize for being the bearer of bad news on Christmas Eve. But unfortunately, it looks like your stud wideout won’t play in Week 16.
According to a report in the Houston Chronicle, there is a “good chance” that A.J.’s bum ankle will keep him on the sidelines when the Texans face the Broncos.
“I’m trying to do everything I can to make sure I’m out there, pretty much like I have been for weeks,” he said. “I’ve been banging it up for 10 or 11 weeks, and it’s kind of taken a toll.”
“I had something happen to it in the Baltimore game. We didn’t think it could get any worse, but it has. I had an MRI, and things weren’t the same. The past few MRIs were the same, but we found some change in this one,” Johnson said.
In the event that Johnson is unable to play, Jacoby Jones would start opposite Kevin Walter. Rookie Dorin Dickerson would become the third receiver. Jones and Walter would have the most fantasy appeal, but neither would be more than a No. 3 fantasy option.
Johnson’s absence would improve the appeal of Owen Daniels, but it’s hard to expect Matt Schaub to have an enormous statistical contest without his top option in the pass. He’s still a No. 1 fantasy quarterback, but owners should lower expectations if Johnson isn’t active.
