Saints lead running back Chris Ivory didn’t play a prominent role in Sunday’s win over the Rams, and his noticeable absence has been explained.
Saints coach Sean Payton said during his postgame news conference Ivory was bothered early in the game by a hamstring injury, and the decision was made to hold him out. Ivory had seven carries for 47 yards, all coming during the Saints’ first two drives.
Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas – who was making his own return from an ankle injury — carried the rushing load for the Saints. Payton didn’t update the severity of Ivory’s injury, but with the Saints getting healthy at the right time, it sounds like he was playing it safe.
