Chargers’ Gates out; Croyle to start for Chiefs

Chargers TE Antonio Gates has been ruled out of Sunday’s AFC West showdown with the Chiefs because of a nagging toe injury.
Gates was active the last two weeks after missing two games, but apparently, the pain was too much for him this week.
Without Gates, the Chargers will hope for a boost from WR Vincent Jackson, who will return to a depleted receiving corps after suffering a calf injury in Week 12.
As expected, Chiefs QB Matt Cassel will miss Sunday’s game after undergoing an appendectomy Wednesday. Brodie Croyle will make his 10th career start in his place.
