Washington says next time he’ll pull a Forrest Gump

Since we’ve already discussed Drew Stanton’s failed “Dougie,” it’s also worth taking a minute to look back at another memorable moment from Week 13: Leon Washington’s almost punt return for a touchdown.
Washington busted out on a return during the third quarter against the Panthers, only to be caught from behind by punter Jason Baker two yards short of the end zone after he pointed toward the sky and then started coasting too early. You can see how that turned out for Washington in the video above.
He wasn’t pleased.
“That’s rule No. 1 — you can’t get tripped by the kicker,” Washington told The Seattle Times. “I’m really not pleased with myself by that. That was really selfish on me, because when I broke through, I pointed initially and realized the kicker was actually going to try to chase me. I speeded up and I thought he couldn’t catch me, and I slowed down the last 10 yards.”
Washington added some humor to defuse his own embarrassment.
“One thing I will do next time, I will try to pull the Forrest Gump and run clean through the stadium to make sure I score,” Washington said.
