UPDATE: The Chargers announced during the third quarter Sproles won’t return to the game after suffering a concussion.
A big hit just before halftime of Sunday’s game sent Chargers RB Darren Sproles to the locker room early.
We’ll see if he returns for the second half against the Raiders.
Sproles was knocked out of the game after taking a hit from Raiders LB Rolando McClain following a 7-yard reception over the middle of the field. After watching several replays of the hit, it appears McClain led with his right shoulder on the much-smaller Sproles but made contact with his helmet.
Sproles was down for a couple of minutes before making his way off the field under his own power. He was brought straight to the locker room.
Losing Sproles would be damaging for the Chargers. Not only is he their change-of-pace back, but he handles both punt and kickoff returns.
Rookie RB Ryan Mathews is active after missing two games because of an ankle injury, but he has yet to see any snaps behind starter Mike Tolbert.
