Welker takes over kicking duties for Gostkowski

A comeback by the Patriots against the Browns in Week 9 will have to come without the services of kicker Steven Gostkowski.
Gostkowski suffered a thigh injury at some point during the first half, and other than a made extra point during the first quarter, he hasn’t been a factor for the Patriots. He has been announced as doubtful to return.
Without Gostkowski, Wes Welker is handling the kicking duties for the Patriots, and he has some history in these situations. As a member of the Dolphins in Week 5 of the 2004 season, Welker took over kicking duties — against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium, no less — when Olindo Mare was injured during pregame. Welker handled kickoffs, and hit a 29-yard field goal and an extra point in that game.
