Overreaction Theater: Chargers don’t need Gates

The Chargers don’t need TE Antonio Gates at all. He might be the most overrated player ever. The Chargers should cut him.
Obviously, those statements are said in jest. A pure overreaction to Chargers TE Randy McMichael scoring a pair of touchdowns for San Diego. (So far.) But this game does reveal a few truths.
The first is that Chargers QB Philip Rivers is certainly ‘matchup proof.’ And it does not matter who he is throwing to, because Rivers is putting up numbers. Rivers is a lot like Colts QB Peyton Manning in that the receivers are an afterthought.
And that leads to the second point that most Chargers pass catchers deserve a look in fantasy leagues. Those who stated McMichael or Seyi Ajirotutu in a spot-start know that you can pretty much plug in any receiver and he will start putting up numbers.
Which probably will not help WR Vincent Jackson‘s contract negotiations.
