Chargers TE Gates ruled out vs. Texans

Six-time Pro Bowl TE Antonio Gates will miss a game for the first time in his eight-year NFL career Sunday after the Chargers declared him inactive against the Texans because of a toe injury.
Gates said Friday that he hoped to play, despite being listed as doubtful on the Chargers’ injury report. His absence leaves San Diego thin on pass-catchers since WRs Legedu Naanee and Malcom Floyd also are out with hamstring injuries.
The Texans also won’t have their starting tight end, Owen Daniels, because of a hamstring injury. He had been listed as questionable.
