Lions’ Follett carted off field

UPDATE: The Associated Press reported Follett was conscious, had movement in his limbs and was taken to the hospital for oberservation.

Passing along news of what looks to be a serious injury to Lions LB Zach Follett at New Meadowlands Stadium.

Follett was carted off the field midway through the fourth quarter with what appears to be a head or neck injury following a collision while covering a kickoff against the Giants. While bracing to be blocked, Follett took a helmet-to-helmet hit from Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul.

Follett was surrounded by teammates while he was down on the field being attended to by trainers, who immobilized his head/neck area and strapped him to a stretcher.

There’s no way of knowing how serious the injury is, given that most of the precautions taken are standard operating procedure for head and neck injuries. It goes without saying any injury of this nature is considered serious.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz gathered the team around him on the sideline before they returned to the field. Follett starts at outside linebacker for the Lions.
