Overreaction Theater: Brees is worst in the league

Drew Brees is the worst quarterback in the league. Kyle Orton would have been a better first-round pick than Brees in my fantasy draft.
These were the sentiments of one of my friends moments after Brews threw his third interception against the Cardinals on Sunday. Though, it is fair to point out that my friend’s vitriol may have been fueled (literally) by of one of the most prominent NFL sponsors, if you catch my drift.
While that Orton point may be fair — at least right now — when did Brees become a punching bag in fantasy circles? Even our own Dave Dameshek admitted that Brees is driving him nuts because he spreads the ball around way too much.
But let’s not go overboard with all of the Brees bashing.
Brees is still one of the top 5 fantasy quarterbacks, and while he might not have the numbers many of you expected when you drafted him in the first round, keep a little perspective. Because I believe that Brees is poised for bigger numbers down the road.
Remember, the Saints have been operating without RB Reggie Bush. I know it’s fashionable to label Bush a bust, mock him for ruining USC’s football program and joke about who the one-time Heisman Trophy winner is currently dating, the reality is he’s rather important to the Saints’ offense. So give this some time.
But you may want to see if there is an owner in your league who is feeling a little burned out by Brees and see if you can make a deal. Take advantage of people who are ruled by emotion and cannot see the big picture. In fact, I happen to know somebody who fits that description perfectly.
