Is less than a week enough time for Randy Moss to get comfortable with Vikings? Can he be a factor as he begins his second stint with the team in a big Monday night road game against the Jets?
In his weekly NFL.com chat, Pat Kirwan’s answer was an emphatic yes.
“Moss will have an impact,” Kirwan said, “because he poses a deep threat — something the Vikings haven’t had all year. They have yet to complete a pass over 30 yards. Whether or not he does that tonight, rest assured the Jets will be defending against it — and that could open up more opportunities for Adrian Peterson. And Moss also gives the team a red-zone presence they are in dire need of.”
The Vikings are coming off a bye week and looking to build momentum after a disappointing 1-2 start. While Moss helps an offense that has been missing its injured star receiver, Sidney Rice, Kirwan is not convinced Minnesota will be able to win tonight, regardless of Moss’ impact.
“It will be tough for the Vikings,” Kirwan said. “They were an average road team last year. Their pass rush, specifically Jared Allen, is a lot different away from the Metrodome. He has only five sacks in his last 10 road games. As we all know, the Jets blitz more than any team in the NFL. If they feel comfortable single-covering Moss, they will eat up Brett Favre most of the night.”
