UPDATE III: Another update to pass along on Clayton. Per The Associated Press, Clayton was on crutches following the game. Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said “it doesn’t look good” when asked about the injury, and more would be known after testing on Monday.
UPDATE II: Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Clayton said his injury is season-ending.
UPDATE: The Rams announced Clayton has a right knee injury and will not return to Sunday’s game.
The Rams’ biggest playmaking receiver is down on the field, and the early scene doesn’t look positive.
Mark Clayton was carted off the field Sunday after suffering what appears to be a right knee injury while running a sideline route during the first quarter against the Lions. Rams trainers were checking Clayton’s right leg while he was down on the field, and they placed an immobilizing brace on the leg.
It doesn’t look good for Clayton to return. It’s a tough blow for the Rams, who lost leading receiver Donnie Avery during the preseason and acquired Clayton from the Ravens.
