Call me confused about the Bolts backfield

Earlier in the week, Chargers coach Norv Turner said that he is committed to Ryan Mathews as his starting running back.
So, by committed to Mathews he meant that Mike Tolbert would still see the lion’s share of the carries? What the heck is going on here? Against the Raiders, Tolbert has rushed for 11 yards on 12 carries with one touchdown.
He also lost a fumble.
On the flip side, Mathews has six carries for 39 yards — that’s an impressive 6.5 yards per carry. But despite what he said, Turner is still using Tolbert in a greater role than the rookie.
I think Mathews has a ton more talent than Tolbert, but for some reason he’s still not getting enough touches to be useful. Obviously, even against one of the worst run defenses in the league, it’s hard to trust either of these running backs.
