The fast start we’ve all been waiting for from Darren McFadden has put him among the league’s leading rushers, but a hamstring injury has left his status — and his early-season breakout – very much in question.

Raiders coach Tom Cable gave us an update, via Vittorio Tafur of The San Francisco Chronicle, when he said McFadden “felt better” on Monday. McFadden, according to Cable, said the latest hamstring setback was “not nearly” like the one he suffered during training camp.

The optimism doesn’t abound, though. Jerry McDonald speculates that based on recent hamstring injuries on the Raiders, he doesn’t expect to see McFadden “this week against the Chargers, and possibly longer.”

With McFadden’s status uncertain following his second hamstring injury of the season, we could see a lot of Michael Bush against the Chargers.
