Thomas inactive, Hartley benched for Saints’ game

Already struggling to run the football this season, the Saints won’t have starting RB Pierre Thomas in Sunday’s game against the Panthers because of an ankle injury. That likely means veteran Ladell Betts will start.

Garrett Hartley won’t play either, but not because of injury. He missed an overtime field-goal attempt last week against the Falcons and is being replaced by 46-year-old John Carney, who was re-signed.
