Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall was a surprise slide down the draft boards over the weekend. A development that was fashioned on rumors of Isaac Redman getting goal-line carries. And those fears became a confounded reality when coach Mike Tomlin announced that Redman was going to be the short-yardage back.
But notice the vernacular — short-yardage back.
Because offensive coordinator Bruce Arians told ESPN 1250 in Pittsburgh host Ken Laird (via Twitter) that Mendenhall was going to be the goal-line back.
Did I just walk into some fantasy football version of a George Carlin bit? (She said get on the plane, I said, [expletive] you, I am going to get in the plane.)
We probably will not get a clear answer as to what is going on here until the Steelers start playing the game. So those who did nab Mendenhall could be rewarded or left cursing Tomlin’s name. And to be honest, Tomlin is really starting to get on the nerves of fantasy enthusiasts everywhere.
First Tomlin suggested that Roethlisberger might not start when he returns. And now playing the Greg Brady “exact words” card is really starting to grate. What’s next, benching WR Mike Wallace because he scores too many long touchdown passes? You are on thin ice Tomlin.
