Are the Lions on the verge of being a super team? Seems kind of strange to say. Like saying Paris Hilton is on the verge of being a responsible adult.
But we are coming off back-to-back years where the Cardinals and the Saints won the NFC title.
While the Lions might not reach the Super Bowl this year, their offensive stars could reach fantasy relevance really quickly. Pat Kirwan picked the Lions as one of his new contenders for the next decade, and you can see why. The team is brimming with talent — potential first-round fantasy talent at that.
I am starting to look at the Lions much in the same way that I looked at the 1991 Cowboys — the first year I participated in a fantasy football league. The Lions — like those Cowboys — have a big, physical receiver, a former No. 1 overall draft pick at quarterback, and a young running back breathing life into the franchise.
I hate making comparisons like this, but it is hard not to be excited about the Lions. And when you see Kirwan giving the Lions credit, this notion gets validated. I have been targeting the Lions’ big three in drafts — with some success — as I was able to nab Jahvid Best in a recent draft and have Matthew Stafford backing up my starter Drew Brees on that team, too.
So the Lions with fantasy superstars? Seems like it has been a long time coming.
