Maroney’s absence very telling

Patriots RB Laurence Maroney was one of the guys I was going to keep an eye on during the first half of the Patriots game with St. Louis, but that was kind of hard considering that he was not on the field.
Maroney did not play in the first half even though he was expected to start, indicating that he is probably headed for the bottom of the depth chart. I reached out to NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks to see what the story was with all of this.
“They are really pleased with Fred Taylor and their other backs,” Brooks said. “Maroney doesn’t run tough between the tackle and his tendency to dance hinders their running game. I don’t think that he is in danger of being cut, but he may not be a prominent part of their game plan.”
Maroney is the highest ranking Patriots running back on NFL.com’s fantasy rankings, but time to look at other options deeper in drafts. Having a Patriots RB step up to take over the position would be quite a boon. That does not appear to be Maroney.
