How will Welker hold up in the second week?

Most football enthusiasts — hardened fans and fantasy players alike — were surprised that Patriots WR Wes Welker has had such a remarkable recovery from a knee injury. And if they were not, you had to be surprised at just how much the Patriots went to Welker during his first action in the team’s second preseason game.

Now the key will be how much Welker will hold up during his second time on the field. And, more specifically, how much time Welker gets with the first team? The starters are expected to play into the third quarter, but it would be surprising to see Welker play that much.

The thing is, Welker is back and the secret is out. How early do you plan on making a bid for him?

Here are some other things to watch in tonight’s game:

  • How many reps will Laurence Maroney receive? The Patriots running backs have been both perplexing and intriguing all at the same time. Maroney has only had eight attempts during the preseason so far. Is he still expected to be the starting running back?
  • How will Sam Bradford react to facing a first-team defense? Bradford will get the start and will likely be the starter during the regular season. He does not have much fantasy value, but Bradford could become one of those sneaky spot-starters, especially with some favorable matchups later on during the season. This will be an early glimpse.
  • Who will be the top fantasy receiver for St. Louis? Honestly, any of these guys going to come through anytime soon? Yeah, probably not.
