Avery carted off field just before halftime

The Rams may have caught a tough break in Thursday night’s preseason game with the New England Patriots when receiver Donnie Avery was carted off the field late in the second quarter with an apparent right knee injury.

Avery was injured during an incompletion down the right sideline when he landed directly on his right knee. He immediately grabbed at the knee after the play, and was down on the field for several minutes as trainers examined him. Avery wasn’t able to put much weight on the knee when he got to his feet, and was carted off the sideline.

Just before Avery was carted away, Patriots receiver Wes Welker — who suffered a severe knee injury last seasonĀ — came over to wish him well.

Avery started against the Patriots along with Laurent Robinson.
