Phillips takes another step in comeback

The comeback of Kenny Phillips from microfracture surgery continues, one step at a time.
Phillips made his preseason debut in Saturday night’s loss to the Steelers, seeing action on six plays in a game where the Giants’ starters played about a quarter and a half. But those were six meaningful plays for Phillips, who returned to practice two weeks ago, and quite possibly the most meaningful part of the game for the Giants, according to Steve Serby.
Phillips had the surgery on his left knee in September and missed nearly all of the 2009 season. His return would go a long ways to helping solidifying a secondary that struggled last season, but has also added safeties Antrel Rolle and Deon Grant.
Everything appears to be on track for Phillips, who all along has targeted playing in the season opener against the Panthers.
