Patriots WR Wes Welker returned to real-game action on Thursday night, making an appearance during the team’s first drive against the Falcons. Tom Brady did not waste any time getting the ball to Welker, either.
Welker was targeted three times on the drive and caught two passes, looking as though he hasn’t missed a beat. With this, you can probably adjust your draft boards and put Welker back into the mix. Though Michael Fabiano did note today that he did something he has never done and handcuffed a WR by drafting Julian Edelman. Not a bad strategy.
Barring any setback, Welker looks good to go.
One other interesting note: The Patriots, reportedly looking to establish more balance with the running game this season, ran six times on the first drive and threw the ball six times. Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk and Fred Taylor all got into the mix. Taylor capped the drive with a 28-yard touchdown run.
Yeah, this will not get frustrating trying to figure out how the Patriots will be using their running backs.
