The Atlanta Falcons will hold out a number of starters in Thursday night’s preseason game against the Patriots, including starting cornerbacks Brent Grimes and Dunta Robinson.
Robinson wasn’t expected to play as he rehabs a hamstring injury, while Grimes was held out of practices this week with a groin injury.
Christopher Owens, Chevis Jackson and Dominique Franks figure to get plenty of action against the Patriots. Per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the starters are expected to get 18-20 snaps.
The Falcons are also holding out SS William Moore and CB Brian Williams, who coach Mike Smith has targeted to return next week against Miami.
Given that the Falcons’ secondary had some problems during joint practices against the Patriots this week, it could shape up to be more of the same against Tom Brady, Randy Moss … and maybe Wes Welker.
The remaining Falcons’ inactives: WR Michael Jenkins, RB Jerious Norwood, RB Jason Snelling, DT Thomas Johnson and DT Peria Jerry.
