Wright, LaFell get early look for Panthers

One of the training camp competitions we’ve been tracking is in Carolina, where questions remain behind top receiver Steve Smith.
While we know Smith is “very optimistic” about being ready for the regular season, he’s not playing Thursday against the Ravens, and coach John Fox put Wallace Wright and rookie third-round pick Brandon LaFell in the starting lineup.
One the second series, Dwayne Jarrett and Kenny Moore got in the game.
It’s a competition worth watching — especially for fantasy heads — and NFL.com senior analyst Pat Kirwan noted recently that underachieving Jarrett is still in the hunt for the starting spot.
We don’t expect that who starts in the first preseason game indicates who will start a month from now, but it’s a look at how things are currently stacked.
