Flacco looks strong in preseason debut

QBs Matt Moore and Joe Flacco are a couple of breakout candidates for 2010, but they had different results on Thursday night.
Flacco was not as sharp in the first couple of series, but threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Michael Clayton in his third series to cap a 96-yard drive. Flacco finished 8 of 12 for 120 yards and a touchdown. You have to love that start. Well, quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn does.
Flacco, however, only hooked up with prized acquisition Anquan Boldin once. RB Willis McGahee caught four passes from Flacco.
Moore looked a bit anxious, but finally looked more relaxed by the third series. In fact, Moore had a couple of nice throws in that drive that were wiped out by penalties. Moore hit Dwayne Jarrett on a nice pickup of a third-and-15 that would have given the Panthers a first down. But again, it was nullified by a questionable holding call.
But as ESPN broadcaster Ron Jaworski noted, “It’s on the tape.”
Moore finished 4 of 7 for 32 yards. But let’s not be overly concerned with the first game of preseason. Especially playing against one of the best defensive teams in the league.
