There is a lot of optimism for the Falcons this season, and I am high on a number of the Falcons fantasy stars, including QB Matt Ryan and RB Michael Turner.
NFL.com senior analyst Pat Kirwan was at Falcons camp today, and he believes that Ryan and Turner are poised for huge seasons. That is a strong endorsement.
Kirwan compared Ryan to Patriots QB Tom Brady, in that both were skinny when they came into the league. But Kirwan reports that Ryan has spent a lot of time in the weight room, getting bigger, faster and stronger. Ryan has looked good on the bootleg and has made some nice throws and is ready for a big season.
Kirwan also reported that Turner is over his high ankle sprain, and he too is looking for a big year. The Falcons were pretty good on the ground last year and expect more of the same this season.
So I remain high on both players. Turner is currently ranked as the No. 6 running back on NFL.com, but i would have him much higher. I also would have Ryan as a No. 1 QB for this season, making it into the Top 10.
Kirwan also had a report on Michael Jenkins, who may miss the season opener. That means that Brian Finneran will likely start at the No. 2 slot, but he’s not much of a fantasy option because the Falcons’ passing offense looks to Roddy White first and Tony Gonzalez second. And rookie WR Kerry Meier is somebody the Falcons are very excited about.
