Falcons report: Ryan has more options

Pat Kirwan was at Falcons camp on Tuesday with an update for “Around the League,” taking a closer look at Matt Ryan, replacing Michael Jenkins and the rookies on defense.

  • Kirwan noted that Ryan looked terrific throwing the ball and will  have more leeway at the line of scrimmage this season, with the ability to check in and out of plays and call audibles.
  • With Jenkins out four to six weeks with a right shoulder injury, Kirwan says veteran Brian Finneran will step in as the starter opposite Roddy White. But keep an eye out for rookie Kerry Meier.
  • Kirwan noted to look out for rookie DT Corey Peters. Another rookie, Sean Weatherspoon, will team up with Curtis Lofton at inside linebacker and both will stay on the field in the team’s nickel defense.
