The NFL’s preseason schedule kicks off on Sunday night, as the Dallas Cowboys face off against the Cincinnati Bengals in the Hall of Fame Game. If you’re a fantasy owner, this annual contest signals the start of your in-game research for draft day.
Here are a few things you should be watching when the ‘Boys and Bengals hit the field.
The Cowboys backfield: Who gets the start, Marion Barber or Felix Jones? You also need to watch their respective roles, especially if the first-team offense gets into the red zone. Also, check out how the team uses Tashard Choice.
Roy E. Williams: With Dez Bryant out, how will Williams respond? He’s said that his rapport with Tony Romo is much improved. Let’s see if it translates on the gridiron. I’d also watch how the Cowboys use Jason Witten in the red zone.
Carson Palmer’s arm: Is his right arm fine, as he suggests, or will his late-season struggles in 2009 continue into the preseason? If he looks strong against the Cowboys, his fantasy draft value could rise a bit. I still only see him as a No. 2 fantasy quarterback, however.
The debut of T.O.chocinco: Antonio Bryant’s knee remains an issue, so Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens should start. It will be interesting to see the dispersal of targets in this game and throughout the preseason. Also, keep tabs on rookie Jermaine Gresham.
