Franklin is no-show for 49ers

One of the best players not in camp right now (while the rest of his team is) is 49ers NT Aubrayo Franklin.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, Franklin was not among the veterans who were required to report for the open of training camp on Saturday.

Franklin, designated the 49ers’ franchise player this spring, has yet to sign his one-year, $7.003 million tender and is technically not under contract. As such, he can’t be disciplined for his absence. But the 49ers retain his rights.

There doesn’t seem to be a great deal of concern around the situation, as Maiocco points out there is “little doubt” Franklin will sign the tender. There appears to be a strong likelihood of that happening after the toughest part of camp is over.
