We’ve known for a while now that the plan for Kenny Phillips was to ease his way back into football during the initial practices of training camp, with the goal to be ready for the season opener.
With Deon Grant aboard, the team and Phillips have said there’s no rush as he recovers from microfracture surgery on his left knee.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin offered the Daily News more of a specific timetable for Phillips, saying the first week of his work with trainers will determine how quickly he returns.
“Well I think for the first week, at least that’s the expectation right now, he will be tested,” Coughlin said. “He will work with the training staff and he’ll be observed on a practice by practice, morning, noon and night basis. How he recovers and how fast he comes back from the extended exercise they’re going to put him through, that will determine when he comes on the field.”
