Checking out some of the reports out of Panthers camp, several notable players will be watching from the sidelines when practices officially begin on Thursday.
The Charlotte Observer reported the Panthers placed six players on the PUP list on Wednesday, including RB Jonathan Stewart and OT Jeff Otah. Stewart, who missed offseason work following surgery on his troublesome Achilles tendon, had indicated back in July he expected to be ready for the start of camp. Otah missed the final three games of the season with a knee injury that wasn’t reportedly considered serious.
When asked about players who wouldn’t practice on Thursday, however, coach John Fox said the decisions wouldn’t be made until closer to practice.
The biggest name on the sidelines for the Panthers is Steve Smith, who offered no timetable for his return from a broken arm. Fox was equally vague, saying he didn’t know when Smith would begin practicing, and that the team would take his situation “as slow as needed.”
