Cowboys’ Bryant makes training-camp splash

SAN ANTONIO — It took only about an hour into the start of training camp for rookie Dez Bryant to make an impression on Cowboys fans.

The receiver came up with one-handed catches and grabs on balls over his head, which wowed the approximately 20,000 people in attendance.

Bryant looked out of shape in organized team activities and minicamps, partly because he missed most of last season on an NCAA suspension, but he reported to training camp at 217 pounds, about five pounds lighter than his assigned weight.

In speaking with coach Wade Phillips, QB Tony Romo and TE Jason Witten, I believe there’s no doubt about how high the expectations are heading into the season. Still, the mood in camp is one of confidence, and Bryant’s ability is just one of the reasons why.
