Tolliver takes command at celebrity golf tournament

Retired NFL QB Billy Joe Tolliver pulled away from the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship field Saturday, firing a tournament-record 33 in the modified Stableford scoring format to take a nine-point, second-round lead.

Tolliver has 58 total points in the format, which rewards players for eagles and birdies and penalizes them for double bogeys. Other former and current NFL players in the top 10 at Edgewood Golf Course in Stateline, Nev., are John Elway (45), Tony Romo (40) and Trent Dilfer and Mark Rypien (both at 37).

Tolliver won the event in 1996 and 2005.

The final round of the 54-hole tournament is set for Sunday.
