Russell listed on UFL team’s provisional roster

Has JaMarcus Russell landed with a professional football team?

The former Raiders QB is on the Omaha Nighthawks’ roster, which was released Friday. But UFL rosters are believed to hold a combination of signed players and those whose rights are held by the team. And guys who don’t care about playing football, apparently.

Omaha owns the UFL rights to Russell, but he isn’t believed to have signed a contract with the team. Russell ruled out the Arena League and the Canadian Football League, shortly after his release by the Raiders this offseason. A change of heart could have occurred in the wake of recent legal troubles, however.

Russell was one of a few notable ex-NFL players on the Nighthawks’ provisional roster, which also includes Shawn Andrews, Justin Fargas, Patrick Ramsey and Jeff Garcia.
