There’s a lot of excitement around Perry Fewell leading the defense in New York, but also a big void to fill in the middle in the absence of Antonio Pierce.
As Kenny Phillips explained in a recent chat, Pierce was much more than just a football player in the Giants’ locker room.
NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi told “NFL Total Access” on Friday that the player expected to get first crack at the vacant starting spot is Jonathan Goff. A second-round pick in 2008, Goff started four games last season.
Gerris Wilkinson and rookie fourth-round pick Phillip Dillard will also get an opportunity to compete. They will get reps in what Lombardi says will be a close race throughout camp.
