It’s customary not to put too much stock into offseason workouts in shorts and helmets, for a lot of reasons.
Even so, it feels worthwhile to pass along this post from Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean, who has presumably had an up-close view of many of those practices with the Titans and came away noting QB Vince Young “made his biggest strides to date” on the field.
The key words there are “on the field.” It’s certainly positive for the Titans, as we haven’t heard much about what Young has done on the field because what he has done off the field has drawn most of the focus.
There are more than a few football minds around NFL Network who believe that once Young displays the maturity the Titans have been waiting for, the focus can go back to what he’s doing on the field. To note, Solomon Wilcots recently wrote the Titans are still waiting for that to happen, while Jamie Dukes and Brian Baldinger agreed everything for Young starts off the field.
Considering all the questions surrounding Young, there are two certainties: he’ll have every opportunity to prove himself this season, and everyone will be watching.
