Hollywood — and the entertainment industry in general — can never get enough of a good idea. Well, it does not even have to be a good idea.
Remember the heady days of 1998 when we were delivered two asteroid movies — Armageddon and Deep Impact? Or even this year, as Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher/Katherine Heigl are offering up competing spy thrillers?
While those films offered mixed results, here is an subject that Hollywood should continue to mine — Vince Lombardi. Coming this fall there will be three competing projects about the famed Packers coach.
There is a recently announced HBO documentary (starring Vince Lombardi as Lombardi), an ESPN movie (Robert De Niro as Lombardi), and a Broadway play (Dan Lauria as Lombardi). How soon until we get Vince Lombardi in 3D? Maybe Vince Lombardi the musical.
And how can we get Kutcher and Cruise to eventually play Lombardi?
But no football enthusiast will complain about more Lombardi. In fact, maybe we need a little bit more. Taking a page from the Krusty the Klown school of endorsements, maybe we should have more Lombardi-themed products. Like the Lombardi Happy Meal — where kids are given a tie, fedora and a motivational life lesson with their hamburger and fries.
