The chatter is picking up that the Cincinnati Bengals are talking about a contract extension with RB Cedric Benson.
According to The Dayton Daily News, the representatives for Benson approached the Bengals regarding an extension, and the organization is open to the idea. The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Monday the Bengals are in “preliminary discussions” with Benson.
Likewise, NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora told NFL Total Access there have been “initial discussions” between the sides.
Bengals play-by-play voice Brad Johansen takes it a few steps farther, Tweeting Tuesday an extension “may be real close” that adds three years and has a value of $16-20 million.
Any way you chose to term it, there is currently smoke on this story, and at some point there will likely be fire.
Benson, who has enjoyed a career reinnasance in Cincinnati, is entering the final year of a two-year deal.
