Shanahan: Redskins want Westbrook

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has taken his recruitment of free-agent RB Brian Westbrook public.

During a group session with reporters Wednesday, Shanahan was asked if there was an update on the status of Westbrook, who we know has been weighing his options after visits with the Rams, Broncos and Redskins.

“No, but if you guys hear anything, just tell him that we’re ready,” Shanahan said. “We want him to sign with us. Like I said, it would be some great competition. I really like Brian, what he has done, how he handles himself. I’m sure he’s weighing some options. It’s not too far away from home. Anymore I can do?”

Shanahan also seemed to indicate that the Redskins have made Westbrook an offer.
