Because it’s May, and almost June, we’ll be spending a lot of time talking about where people are lining up during OTAs and minicamps. One of those situations is playing out in St. Louis, where the Rams are looking at a number of receivers, many of whom are young and/or inexperienced.
The Rams currently have 11 receivers listed on their roster, and according to Bill Coats of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Laurent Robinson, Brandon Gibson, Danny Amendola and Donnie Avery alternated with the first unit on the second day of OTAs last week.
Despite the inexperience, it sounds like the Rams will stand pat at the position. According to Coats, even though Rams general manager Billy Devaney has been bombarded by questions about the group — which now includes another youngster in fourth-round draft pick Mardy Gilyard — he never viewed receiver as a desperate need.
While the Rams sort out their numbers, Jim Rodenbush of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat views it as great news that Avery and Robinson — the team’s biggest deep threats who were hit by injuries in 2009 — currently are 100 percent healthy.
