We’ll take a quick break from our regularly scheduled offseason football posts to update the status of Jared Allen’s hair, which, for various reasons, has become a storyline this week.

Allen let the world know Tuesday that he had cut his trademark mullet for — of all reasons — his wedding this weekend.

“The things men do for love,” Allen told the Vikings’ official Web site (yes, there is a photo).

But before the outcry coming out of the Mulletudes in Mullet Nation reaches a fevered pitch (judging by your comments here, this didn’t go over well), there’s no need to sound the alarms. Allen has been tweeting about his mullet (and who wouldn’t days before their wedding?), suggesting “it was only a trim” and noting Wednesday that he “can’t wait for its return.” So, we’ll likely see it poking out from underneath a purple helmet again soon.

Whew. Exhale, everyone.
