Redskins have role in mind for Westbrook

Redskins general manager Bruce Allen was interviewed Wednesday night by Rich Eisen on NFL Total Access, and laid out why the team was interested in veteran running back Brian Westbrook, despite already having three former Pro Bowl rushers on the roster.

“We just wanted to meet him and talk about some of the ideas that we have for him,” Allen told Eisen. “And it includes a lot of passing situations, and utilizing his talents.”

Allen went on to say that QB Donovan McNabb, who was teammates with Westbrook in Philadelphia, speaks very highly of him, and that Westbrook’s status as a D.C. area native makes him a natural fit.

Speaking of McNabb, Allen said he has improved with each minicamp, and is a great leader. As for disgruntled DT Albert Haynesworth, Allen managed to speak a lot without saying much.
