The health of WR Wes Welker will be one of the biggest questions hanging over the Patriots heading into training camp. Will he be ready to go? How is the rehabilitation from a torn ACL and MCL progressing?
Welker joined Michael Felger and Tony Massarotti on the “Felger & Mazz Show” on 98.5 The Sports Hub today to update his status.
“It’s going really well.” Welker said. “Really just plugging along, working hard every day, and that’s my plan — just getting up in the morning, putting my game face on, and working hard, and trying to get ready as soon as possible.
“The season is still pretty far away, and we have some time, so I’m just going to continue to work hard and do the best I can to get back on the field as soon as I can. I’m not going to try to push it before it’s ready.”
Welker has been working out with Tom Brady recently, and the quarterback was impressed with Welker’s work ethic. Brady described Welker as a throwback in terms of his toughness. Brady has been throwing to Welker, and added that Welker’s comeback from surgery has been remarkable (via Sports Radio Interviews).
“It’s really been fun for me to see him and the improvements he makes on a daily basis, when I was pretty much going through the same thing he was going through,” Brady said. “He’s made me look like I was a year behind schedule. He’s worked really hard and it’s great for me to see.”
A year behind schedule? Considering his recent comments, Brady should probably not be poking fun at his own work ethic. Just saying.
