Sanchez stunned by Cushing’s suspension

Jets QB Mark Sanchez and Texans LB Brian Cushing were college roommates when the two players starred at USC, so Sanchez knows a thing or two about how strict Cushing is when it comes to putting stuff into his body.

Which is why Sanchez admitted on Wednesday to the Newark Star-Ledger that Cushing’s four-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance “really kind of blew me away.”

“It’s just hard for me to see that he would put his body in jeopardy like that,” Sanchez told the Star-Ledger. “I know how cautious he is and smart about nutrition. So it really kind of blew me away. … I texted him right away and said, ‘Hey man, I’m here for you. Anything you need.’ He’s a great kid and he’ll make it through.”

Cushing, who was voted Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year, will keep the award after the AP took a revote on Wednesday.
