NEW YORK — If anyone out there had trouble understanding commissioner Roger Goodell when he introduced Redskins’ first-round draft pick Trent Williams, you weren’t alone. But we got to the bottom of the story.
Goodell announced the fourth overall pick as “Trent ‘Silverback’ Williams.”
When Williams met with Goodell this week, he requested that he be announced with his nickname included. I think he might have had to do some convincing … but we are in primetime now. We can spice it up.
The nickname, which Williams told me his teammates gave him at Oklahoma, refers to the silverback gorilla. That’s the story.
