NEW YORK — Yes, that was Drew Brees announcing the No. 32 pick, the final pick of the first round, for the Saints. That has never been done before at an NFL Draft. Just one of the changes for the primetime draft.

Brees is in New York representing the 75 most valuable draft picks of all time, as voted by you fans, and it was also announced Thursday he was voted by fans onto to the cover of “Madden NFL 11.”

Brees is hot right now.

“Listen, it was a tremendous honor,” he said offstage after making the pick. “Obviously, what made it even more ironic was that I was the 32nd pick in 2001, which was the first pick of the second round then. I hope we’re drafting 32nd every year. Obviously, to be here as the fan vote for the cover of Madden NFL 11  was a tremendous honor. It was the first year that fans have been able to vote. It’s a year of firsts.”

Oh, and Brees announced the Saints selected CB Patrick Robinson.
