Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman is en route to the NFL Network studios as this is hacked out, set to chat with fans live on NFL.com at 6 p.m. ET and join in for a few segments on NFL Total Access at 7 p.m. ET. As we await his arrival, a transcript of his recent interview with XX Sports Radio in San Diego just landed on our news desk.
Merriman, who admits he’s had discussions about the possibility of wrestling in the WWE, says he remains committed to preparing for the 2010 season.
“All that other stuff is just talks,” Merriman told Darren Smith, via Sportsradiointerviews.com. ”I was disappointed with the way our season left off and it’s been motivating me to get back to working out again and get [myself] back on the field, period. That’s what it’s come to and regardless of what has happened with the CBA or where I’m playing at or whatever the case is, I have to be physically and mentally ready to go play football. That’s it.”
Sounds definitive, for now. We might see Merriman in the ring someday, but not before we see him on the field. As for football, Merriman has been working out on his own and not with the Chargers this offseason due to his status as a restricted free agent (he hasn’t signed his tender).
