Three Duke players who were not at the NFL Scouting Combine — DB Leon Wright, LB Vincent Rey and DE Ayanga Okpokowuruk — helped their chances of catching on with an NFL team at the school’s pro day.
Seventeen teams turned out for the event to watch nine Duke players and four others from small schools in the area.
Wright’s (5-foot-8 1/4, 181 pounds) 40-yard dash times (4.40 and 4.44 seconds), vertical jump (39 inches), broad jump (10 feet, 5 inches), and three-cone drill (6.76 seconds) all would have ranked among the top 10 performers at the combine. Wright also recorded a 4.34 short shuttle and 12 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds.
Rey (6-2, 240) ran a 4.59 and 4.58 40, a 4.28 short shuttle and a 6.89 three-cone drill. Rey recorded a 38.5-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 4-inch broad jump and 20 bench press reps.
Okpokowuruk (6-5 1/4, 254) ran the 40 in 4.85 and 4.89, the short shuttle in 4.46 and the three-cone drill in 7.19. He recorded a 37.5-inch vertical jump, 10-foot, 4-inch broad jump and 28 bench press reps.
Lewis (6-0 1/8, 217) kept all of his numbers from the combine and ran position drills after the workout.
Oghobaase (6-5 1/4, 303) ran a 5.29 and 5.35 in the 40 and a 4.75 in the short shuttle. He kept the rest of his numbers from the combine.
